This practice combines both Yin and Yang sequences to cultivate stillness and patience as well as energy and action. The passive Yin poses build longer holds supported with props to target the body’s connective tissues and joints. The more active Yang movements build on the increased range of motion initiated by the Yin poses, helping blood, lymph, breath, and energy flow throughout the body.

I began practicing yoga 20 years ago as an antidote to grad school. What began as a disciplined and cathartic experience evolved into a greater manifestation of self-exploration, joy, and reverence. As a natural extension of my practice, I was called to teach and received my certification in Shri Yoga—a synthesis of traditions that emphasizes alignment while honoring the body’s natural intelligence through mindful practice. sage adjective: wise through reflection + experience | noun: a medicinal + culinary herb; a wise person
In addition to the obvious connotations of badassery and wisdom, Wild Sage is a combination of my kids’ names, Wilder + Sage. I dedicate my practice to them, as well as to the final stem of our unruly branch, my hubby Chris.
Whatever the reason for coming to the mat, yoga is a great gift of self-wisdom available to every body and being . It is a living, mutable practice that is at once physical, soulful, and unique to each individual. Through breath and movement, yoga works to calm the mind, engage the body, and cultivate an awareness which helps us to accomplish great feats of humanness—focus, strength, flexibility, peace, balance, vibrancy. It is not only good self-care and exercise, it is also a metaphorical expression for how we each live our lives—providing us with challenges, choices, insights, and rewards both on and off the mat.
