I began practicing yoga 20 years ago as an antidote to grad school. What began as a disciplined and cathartic experience evolved into a greater manifestation of self-exploration, joy, and reverence. As a natural extension of my practice, I was called to teach and received my certification from Sienna Smith, E-RYT 500, in Shri Yoga -- a dynamic form of Hatha practice based on a synthesis of Anusara, Viniyoga, Iyengar, and Tantra traditions. At the core of my practice and the sequences I lead is devotion to authenticity, connection, awareness, discovery, and a mutual exchange of energy that brings each of us closer to our true inner teacher, the limitless self.
wild adjective: untamed; living + growing in a natural environment; | noun: a natural or uncultivated state
sage adjective: wise through reflection + experience | noun: a medicinal + culinary herb; a wise person
In addition to the obvious connotations of badassery and wisdom, Wild Sage is a combination of my kids’ names, Wilder + Sage. I dedicate my practice to them, as well as to the final leaf of our unruly branch, my hubby Chris.
Whatever the reason for coming to the mat, yoga is a great gift of self-wisdom available to every body and being . It is a living, mutable practice that is at once physical, soulful, and unique to each individual. Through breath and movement, yoga works to calm the mind, engage the body, and cultivate an awareness which helps us to accomplish great feats of humanness—focus, strength, flexibility, peace, balance, vibrancy. It is not only good self-care and exercise, it is also a metaphorical expression for how we each live our lives—providing us with challenges, choices, insights, and rewards both on and off the mat.
